Cross Country is a FALL (AUGUST –OCTOBER) Sport!
What is Cross Country?
Cross Country is a co-ed, competitive running sport. Generally, races range from 3k-5k (3.125 miles). We welcome runners of all abilities!
Practices (in season) consist of different “types” of runs: some days we sprint, other days we run long and slowly. Throughout the season, we focus upon individual improvement, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. Above all, we stress a “can-do, winning attitude.”

Summer Camp 2017
We will conduct our third annual Cross County Mini Camp from Monday, 7 AUGUST to Wednesday 9 August 2017. We will meet in Coach Behr’s room (T-140—across from the ROTC Room) from 8:00 AM until 11:10.
The purpose of camp is to introduce runners to the sport, lightly condition, and improve. A typical camp day will include: light running, hydrate/light food, view a running movie, then lightly run again.
Must Have to participate: All student athletes must have an updated physical on file at STHS to participate. The Physical needs to be dated on or after April 1st, 2017. You can get these forms to print by clicking on the link below or or obtain them from a coach.
Practice will begin Monday, 14 August 2017 from 3:40 until 4:45. We will welcome new runners as students return to school on August 17th.
TIPS on SUMMER CONDITIONING
I am not a “volume” coach! However, competitive runners will run at least 35 miles per week. Clearly, most of our runners are building to this level. However, during the summer “off-season,” runners should attempt to run 12-25 miles per week. For most STHS runners, running four times per week for 15-30 minutes will suffice.
