The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebel Boys played Pelion High School on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. As the game began, it appeared it was going to be a close one. It was basket for basket in the beginning but the Rebels started to take over and ended the first quarter up by 7. Running out of steam early on, the Rebels let Pelion close in on them, ending the half up by only 2. After a much needed break in halftime, the Rebels came back out on the court and dominated scoring 25 points in the 4th quarter and winning the game by 11. Richard Holmes and Tre Moore both played well, putting up double digits for the Rebels. Next up for the Rebels is Friday, January 20, 2017 @ 7:30 pm @ Brookland Cayce High School.

The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebel Boys played North Augusta on Saturday, January 14, 2017. This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2017 but due to possible inclement weather, it was rescheduled for January 14, 2017. As the teams took the court, it was clear that this was going to be a close game. It was basket for basket during the entire game. North Augusta ended the first quarter up by only 3 points but the Rebels closed out the half up by 1. The Jackets ended the third quarter up by 6 but the Rebels closed in on them but just couldn’t pull it out and ended up losing by 5 points. Next up for the Rebels is Tuesday, January 17, 2017 @ 7:30 pm @ Strom Thurmond High School. They will play Pelion.

The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebel Boys traveled to Edisto High School on Friday, January 6, 2017. After a slow moving first quarter, the Rebels seemed to come alive and ended the half up by 10. Taking the court after the half, the Rebels exploded on the court and never looked back. The Rebel Boys won their region opener by a score of 55-32. The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebel Boys played Airport High School on Tuesday, January 3, 2016 @ Strom Thurmond High School. The Rebels seemed to drag through the first half of the game and were down by 7 at the half. They managed to pick up the pace in the third quarter and ended it tied at 31. But Airport’s C.J. The final game of the Leon Brodgen Holiday Tournament was held on Friday, December 23, 2016 @ 4:30 pm. The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebels boys played John T. Hoggard High School from Wilmington, North Carolina. The Rebels ended the first quarter within reaching distance of Hoggard but that would be as close as they would get. After the half, Hoggard exploded on the court in the third quarter and extended the lead by 20 points. It was smooth sailing to a victory for Hoggard.

The Strom Thurmond Varsity Rebel Boys traveled to Wilmington, North Carolina on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 to participate in the Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament. Their first game was against the host school, New Hanover High School. The Strom Thurmond Varsity Boys appeared tired from the travel and scored only 6 points in the first quarter. They bounced back some in the second but could never really come close to New Hanover who breezed into a victory for their opening game of the tournament.

The Strom Thurmond Varsity Boys traveled to Evans High School on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Having to play this game 2 players short, it was clear early on that it would be a struggle for the Rebels. After scoring only 3 points in the 1st quarter, the Rebels fought back and ended the half down only by 2 points. They ended the 3rd quarter down by 6 but came out in the 4th and seemed to dominate the court. After 2 players fouled out, the Rebels had to struggle to maintain. It was a fight to the buzzer but Strom Thurmond pulled it out by 1 point.
