The Strom Thurmond Rebels entered the seventh inning down a run and facing the end of their season Saturday. Back to back singles by Merissa MacDonald and Ella Stone followed by a sacrifice fly by Brianna Walden brought Autumn Easler to the plate. Easler doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring MacDonald and Stone and sending the Rebels into the District VI semi-finals.
Walden was the winning pitcher for the Rebels. She allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Strom Thurmond totaled 11 hits in the game. Easler, MacDonald, Stone, and Bailey Burckhalter each collected multiple hits for STHS Rebels Varsity. Easler led the Rebels with three hits in four at bats.
Strom Thurmond plays next on Monday against the Timberland Wolves, at Timberland High School, with the first pitch being thrown at 6:00. The winner will advance to the Distict VI championship against Aynor on Wednesday.
